National progress update on personal health budgets

The Government's mandate to the NHS sets clear expectations for a major expansion of personal health budgets to 50,000-100,000 by 2020.Supporting this commitment, personal health budgets will now be included in the new CCG Improvement and Assessment Framework (IAF) for 2016-17 and the Sustainability and Transformation Plan (STP) process.The national team are pleased to share the latest personal health budgets progress report (May 2016), available now on the learning network.Highlights of the report include:-Around 7600 people had a personal health budget between April 2015 and March 2016.-CCGs reported that there was a 76% increase in people who had a personal health budget compared with the same period in 2014-15.-21% of CCGs reported no change or a decrease in the number of people with a personal health budget compared with the same period in 2014-15.-Around two thirds of the 7600 are adults with NHS Continuing Healthcare and children's continuing care.-Uptake varies greatly between CCGs: a quarter reported having 40 or more personal health budgets but over a quarter had fewer than 9.-80 CCGs reported they had or would have a published a local offer outlining their plans for an extension of personal health budgets beyond adult NHS Continuing Healthcare and children's continuing care by the end of March 2016.For further information regarding progress in your local area, please contact your regional lead or email the PHB team.As previously advised the markers of progress are now a quarterly collection and the next survey will be sent to your PHB lead to complete at the end of June/beginning of July.
