New Government measures to support the care sector’s fight against the coronavirus pandemic is welcomed as ‘Better late than never’ by Kent Integrated Care Alliance (KiCA)Ann Taylor, Chair of the Kent Integrated Care Alliance says:It is no secret the social care sector has been battling against this virus with limited assistance from the Government. For us it has been ‘business as usual’ doing whatever we can to keep those we care for safe – we, the care sector, cannot simply stop caring. It is with much relief we welcome the Government’s commitment to support the social care sector with a new action plan. In summary it commits to reduce outbreaks in care homes, support care staff and providers and maintain independence of those receiving care.Thankfully the Government has also confirmed that everyone going into a care home from hospital will be tested with immediate effect. This is hugely important, currently this does not happen – it’s playing Russian roulette with those incumbent residents we are already shielding from this deadly virus.Specifically access to testing, millions of additional PPE items, and expansion of the workforce through increased recruitment will receive a major boost. Very welcome is the commitment to develop a unifying ‘care brand’ for care workers, which, will be based on the existing CARE badge to ensure recognition as a valued workforce supported by access to benefits during crisis.Moving forward above everything else it is especially comforting to know we have the Government’s backing as we continue to work around the clock during these difficult times. The Alliance is pooling resources and staff to ensure the effective use of our social care workforce in Kent to ensure we can achieve the biggest impact. However we are particularly keen to here from individuals who may have transferable skills from other sectors such as; hospitality, hair and beauty, retail, and childcare.
