Kent Integrated Care Alliance (KICA) and Care Talk magazine announce the launch of an exciting new collaboration, Women Achieving Greatness in Social Care (WAGS).
The brainchild of KiCA Chair, Ann Taylor, and Care Talk editor, Lisa Carr, female movers and shakers of the social care sector have come together to create their very own platform for sharing their voice in social care.
Officially calling themselves WAGS (Women Achieving Greatness In Social Care); collectively they have pledged to change the landscape for the women leaders of tomorrow in social care.
Over 85% of the social care workforce is female. Many of these hard working, dedicated and talented women juggle the challenges of family life with their career. The purpose of the WAGS is to promote gender equity and promote and celebrate the incredible achievements of the female workforce.
Ann Taylor, Chair, Kent Integrated Care Alliance (KICA) says: “The value of women coming together cannot be underestimated. Many female inspirational leaders have, during the last two very challenging years, remained the key operational manager within their respective organisations, often donning a uniform and PPE to cover shifts and work on the frontline with staff. WAGS provides a unique opportunity to come together to support one another and share experiences and challenges of achieving great things as a woman in social care. Let’s celebrate the positive things that have arisen as a result of the pandemic – and being better together as women is a great start!”
Lisa Carr, Editor of Care Talk magazine says: “Through conversations with our readers there is an overwhelming message that recognising the role of women leaders in social care at all levels should be part of a national agenda.
Many women leaders in social care have risen through the ranks from a frontline care role, going on to lead managers of the future through experience, and by example. The value of having worked on the frontline cannot be underestimated and is a key driver in continuing to achieve great things at leadership level.”
The purpose of WAGS is to create an informal forum of women leaders from all areas of social care. Through campaigns and a programme of networking and social events WAGS will bring together women leaders who work in social care, providing a platform for support, empowerment and real change for the sector. This unique initiative will culminate in a Gala Awards, which will celebrate the achievements of women in social care.
