CORONAVIRUS STATEMENT FROM THE PRIME MINISTER

Advice from the Prime Minister Boris Johnson communicated on the 16th March said:If someone gets a cough or a fever in a household, the whole household will need to self-isolate for 14 days. Those living alone should self-isolate for 7 days.The Government is recommending increased social distancing – so where businesses and individuals can work from home, they should. Unnecessary travel should stop. People should reduce social contacts in general and avoid confined spaces such as pubs, restaurants, cinemas.This advice will extend to mass gatherings to free up critical workers who would be diverted from other more important tasks by.By this weekend, those with the most serious health conditions will be 'shielded' from contact for the next 12 weeks.The focus needs to be on on the most vulnerable. People over 70, pregnant women, and people with pre-existing health conditions, should avoid all unnecessary social contact for 12 weeks.Action is being taken when it is most effective – slowing the spread, reducing victims and fatalities. The peak of the epidemic is coming faster in some places than others – London is a few weeks ahead of the rest of the country.Other measures may be necessary but need to be done at the right time and in the right way.The Department of Health and Social Care publish updated data on the number of coronavirus cases on their website each day at 2pm.

What to do if you have symptoms

Stay at home for 7 days if you have either:

  • a high temperature
  • a new continuous cough

This will help to protect others in your community while you are infectious.Do not go to a GP surgery, pharmacy or hospital.You do not need to contact NHS 111 to tell them you’re staying at home.Read the COVID-19 stay at home guidance.
